Darlington will be without Corey Barnes, while Drew Talbot is pushing for a return for Chesterfield.

Youngster ruled out after suffering injury in training

Rock bottom Darlington will be without Corey Barnes for the visit of promotion hopefuls Chesterfield. The youngster has been ruled out of the clash by manager Steve Staunton after picking up an ankle injury in training this week. Mark Bower is slightly ahead of schedule in his recovery from a similar problem but the defender is still a few weeks away from a return. Midfielder Chris Lumsdon is still not ready to make his comeback to first-team action despite returning to training following a knee injury, while striker Noel Whelan is again unavailable for selection as he continues to struggle with a hamstring problem.

Drew Talbot is pushing for a return to the Chesterfield starting line-up ahead of the trip. The forward made his first appearance in seven matches following an ankle injury as a late substitute in the home win over promotion rivals Bury last time. With Jack Lester recovering from knee surgery, Talbot will challenge last weekend's matchwinner Scott Boden, as well as Barry Conlon, Martin Gritton and on-loan striker Gary Madine for a place in the XI. After returning from a five-week absence against Port Vale 10 days ago, Wade Small missed the Bury game with a groin injury and the problem is set to keep the forward on the sidelines. Defender Aaron Downes will see a specialist next week to assess the extent of his latest knee injury.
