He's done it! Rotherham manager Steve Evans kept his promise and donned his holiday gear

Rotherham manager Steve Evans kept to his word and arrived at his side's final game of the Sky Bet Championship season wearing a sombrero, shorts and flip-flops.

The Scot had promised fans that he would don his beach attire if the club were safe going into the match - and the Millers duly preserved their Championship status with a 2-1 win over Reading in midweek.

Evans said he would bow to "public demand" to turn up in his beachwear on the final afternoon against Leeds - and more than 10,000 tweets were posted using Sky Sports News HQ's #sombreroforsteve hashtag.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Evans said of the campaign: "There was a few pounds and pennies for deserving causes put there if I came through with it. The sooner I can get back to the dressing room and get serious, the better.

"I make a tongue in cheek comment and it's snowballed. Some companies got in touch and said 'if you do that, then we'll make a contribution to a good cause', so from that point of view I had to see it through.

"I don't think many other managers have turned up here in a sombrero, so there's a first for Leeds United!"

Evans' summery attire turned out to be a highlight of the afternoon as the Yorkshire neighbours played out a goalless draw.
