Brentford have moved a step closer towards starting work on their planned new ground after the Government approved a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) for the land required.
The Championship side are planning a purpose-built 20,000 capacity stadium on a site in Lionel Road, South Brentford.
And Hounslow Borough Council sought government approval for a CPO which would allow the club to buy the remaining land needed, before work could begin on the new community stadium.
Brentford announced on Wednesday: "(We) are pleased to confirm that, on April 1, the Secretary of State for communities and local government, the Rt Hon. Greg Clark MP, approved the CPO for the land required for the new Brentford Community Stadium project.
"This CPO includes the Capital Court site, currently occupied by a disused and derelict office block, together with other small parcels of land that will complete the 11.7 acre development site."
Bees chairman Cliff Crown has welcomed the news, commenting: "Achieving the approval for the CPO is another step forward in our development plans.
"I'd like to thank all parties involved in getting us to this stage, with special thanks to the London Borough of Hounslow who led the process.
"This approval marks the start of further important legal steps that the Club and the London Borough of Hounslow now need to follow. We look forward to being able to make further progress over the coming months."
