Brentford chief executive Mark Devlin has confirmed that Gianfranco Zola is not under consideration for the new head coach position this summer.

Current manager Mark Warburton will leave the club at the end of the season and a newspaper reported Zola was under consideration after he was spotted speaking to Bees owner Matthew Benham at a recent home game.

Chief Executive of Brentford FC Mark Devlin is still hoping that The Bees can sneak into a play-off place and reach Wembley again

But Devlin, who says the club do have a number of candidates under consideration, told Sky Sports News HQ:Gianfranco is a great name in the game and recently came to watch us against Bolton.

"He was obviously spotted speaking to Matthew but there were lots of high-profile people at the game that day, such as Martin O'Neill. Lots of people come to games at Griffin Park for a variety of reasons.

"But Gianfranco is not currently under consideration for the head coach role. We have a list of candidates we're considering at the moment but he's not one of them."

Zola lost his previous job at Serie A side Cagliari in March this year after a poor run of results. The former Chelsea star also managed Watford during the 2012-13 campaign after a two-year spell in charge at West Ham.

Brentford announced in February that Warburton, who led the club to promotion from League One last year and into a credible candidacy for promotion to the Premier League this season, would be leaving the club due to a difference of opinion on a restructuring of the management team.

Brentford want to employ a head coach that does not have the ability to veto new players, which Warburton does, and introduce more statistical analysis into training and matches.

The west London club can still make the Championship play-offs if they can beat already relegated Wigan on Saturday and either Ipswich or Derby County lose.
