York have bolstered their attacking options for their Sky Bet League Two relegation battle with the signing of former Hibernian and Celtic striker Derek Riordan.

The 33-year-old has penned a deal until the end of the season after impressing Minstermen boss Jackie McNamara, a fellow Scot, during a two-week trial.

Subject to the club receiving international clearance, Riordan could make his York debut in the crucial clash with Stevenage at Bootham Crescent on Saturday.

Ex-Scotland international Riordan made his name at Hibernian, where he scored 64 goals in 146 appearances, before landing a move to Celtic in 2006.

He returned to Hibernian two years later after struggling to secure regular first-team football at Celtic Park, but left Edinburgh in 2011 before having spells with clubs in China, England and Scotland.
