Michael Flynn got off to a winning start in his first game in charge of Sky Bet League Two's bottom club Newport as they snatched a 2-1 victory at Crewe.

The Exiles, who sacked Graham Westley this week, came from a goal behind to take maximum points as Joss Labadie poked home an 89th-minute winner to close the gap on safety to nine points.

Callum Cooke scored a well-worked opener for Crewe, with Ryan Wintle laying off Alex Kiwomya's cross-field pass into Cooke's path and he fired home. Newport equalised in the 53rd minute when Dan Butler volleyed in from the edge of the area and Labadie grabbed a last-gasp winner.

Leyton Orient are six adrift of the safety zone after they slipped to a 3-0 defeat at home to Grimsby. The Mariners took a seventh-minute lead when Danny Andrew's cross was headed home by Sam Jones and scored a second in the 71st minute when a Jones shot deflected in off O's defender Callum Kennedy. Scott Vernon wrapped up the points late on.

Notts County moved above opponents Hartlepool with a 2-1 win at Meadow Lane. Shola Ameobi saw a penalty saved by Pools goalkeeper Joe Fryer but did open the scoring for the Magpies seconds after the restart, sliding the ball home from Jorge Grant's through pass.

Grant added a thumping second with 20 minutes remaining as a Haydn Hollis own goal proved mere consolation for Hartlepool.

At the top, leaders Doncaster stay four points clear following a 2-0 win against Cheltenham. Andy Butler converted Matty Blair's quickly taken free-kick to open the scoring and after Robins defender Will Boyle was sent off with 19 minutes left, John Marquis kept his cool to score a second from an Alfie May pass.
