Turner sets the record straight
Hereford have taken steps to set the record straight following confusion regarding the signing of Jack MacLeod from Carshalton Athletic.
The 19-year-old midfielder has joined the Bulls until the end of the season after moving from Carshalton, who play in the Ryman Premier Division.
Hereford had attempted to arrange a trial for MacLeod, who was out of contract, but Carshalton were not keen on the move.
Bulls boss Graham Turner, therefore, offered seven days notice of Hereford's intention to sign MacLeod.
Uncertainty
However, Carshalton are unhappy to have lost MacLeod and Turner has moved to clear up any uncertainty surrounding the transfer.
"We feel it necessary to put the record straight on the signing of Jack MacLeod following Carshalton's grievance," said Turner in a statement on Hereford's official website.
"We attempted for quite some time to arrange for Jack to attend training and play in a reserve match for us, it became clear that a time could not be found for this to happen.
"Following our enquiry, Jack tells us he was put under pressure to sign a contract at Carshalton which he resisted.
Co-operation
"It became apparent that through negotiations we were not making any progress, we therefore took the decision to serve seven days notice of approach on Carshalton, something that is quite within the rules for a non-contract player.
"During those seven days Jack was once again pressed to sign a contract. Upon the expiry of the notice period we completed the signing of Jack.
"During nearly 30 years of management I can count on one hand the number of times we have served seven days notice on a club for a non-contract player. Normally it is done through co-operation.
"In this case, however we felt that it was necessary in order to get the player, we have complied with FA regulations to the letter."
