Eriksson's assistant can understand manager's departure
Tord Grip has admitted he was not surprised by Hans Backe's decision to quit Notts County.
Backe stepped down as manager at Meadow Lane on Tuesday after less than two months in charge.
It is understood he left after promises were broken over finances, with Peter Trembling buying the club from Munto Finance on Saturday.
Grip, assistant to director of football Sven Goran Eriksson, can understand Backe's reasons but hopes there is still a bright future for County.
"I'm not surprised about Hans leaving," Grip told
Fotbollskanalen. "He is disappointed he did not get the things he was promised.
"The aim was the Premier League when Munto Finance was involved but that did not happen.
"There are enormous sums needed to fulfil the project that was promised, but it is not a dead-end yet. It could be that there is more money coming into the club.
"We should know more by the end of the year. Peter Trembling is confident that he will get new money into the club."
Lee shock
While Grip may not have been shocked by Backe's departure, County defender Graeme Lee admits it came as a total surprise to the players.
"It wasn't what anybody expected. All the lads came in for training and were told to come for a meeting beforehand, but we didn't think it would be anything like that," Lee told
skysports.com.
"They told us he had left the club and it came as a big shock to everyone.
"I don't think it was anything to do with the football-side of things because we were doing well, so it must be something behind-the-scenes. He has only been here six or seven weeks and we just never expected it.
"It is not a great position to be in because when it happened before, when Ian McParland left, you just want everything to get settled down again with the new manager, but things are up in the air once again, so it is frustrating.
"The plus side for us is that it is the same staff that will be taking over again, so the playing side shouldn't change too much. That gives us a chance to put everything out of our mind and focus on football again."
