Luton took advantage of Wycombe not playing until Monday by beating struggling Tranmere 1-0 at Kenilworth Road to go top of the League Two table.
Ricky Miller proved the Hatters' hero when striking the only goal of the game on 70 minutes, as Rovers stayed second from bottom.
Shrewsbury also moved above Wycombe thanks to a 2-0 defeat of Mansfield at New Meadow, with Bobby Grant and James Collins netting in the second half after James McGuire saw red for Town in the 31st minute.
Stevenage were the big winners of the day in this division as Chris Beardsley and Lee Barnard both bagged a brace in a 5-1 thrashing of Cheltenham at the Lamex Stadium.
Charlie Lee also scored for the hosts, while Byron Harrison's away strike ended up proving nothing more than a consolation.
Plymouth Argyle's in-form front men again impressed in a 3-0 defeat of Portsmouth, with Reuben Reid bagging a brace, the first from the penalty spot, and Lewis Alessandra also netting - all three goals coming in the opening half-hour.
Morecambe recovered from a run of three straight defeats to beat Bury 1-0 at the Globe Arena, with Kevin Ellison bagging the crucial goal 20 minutes from time.
Hartlepool remain at the foot of the table following a 1-0 loss at Southend, with David Worrall breaking the deadlock on 65 minutes.
Barry Fuller was on target as AFC Wimbledon edged out Dagenham and Redbridge by the same scoreline, while Derek Asamoah claimed the only goal of the game in Carlisle's defeat of Accrington at Brunton Park.
James Roberts' 35th-minute close-range effort also proved enough to give Oxford United victory over York at Bootham Crescent.
