Hartlepool youngster Josh Nearney has signed a new contract with the club.
The 20-year-old defender made his Pools debut as a substitute in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Sheffield United in September before playing five games for Northern Premier League side Whitby during a month-long loan spell.
He has been at Victoria Park since the age of 16 and signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2014.
Hartlepool manager Craig Hignett told the club's official website: "Josh is a good young defender with a really good attitude and he's not far away from breaking in to the team.
"I see him more as a right-back now but it's useful that he can play a couple of positions and if he keeps working hard then I think he's got a real chance in the game."
