Stockport takeover still in the balance
Stockport's prospective new owners, the 2015 group, have warned that the deal to buy the cash-strapped club is 'by no means at the finish line'.
County need to find a buyer for the club to take them out of administration before next season or they risk expulsion from the Football League. They originally entered talks with the Melrose consortium but talks stalled and the 2015 group have come to the forefront of negotiations.
However, Sean Connolly who is fronting the 2015 group's takeover bid of the Edgeley Park club admitted that although they have made progress there is still some way to go.
In an open letter to Stockport fans he said: "The 2015 Group can now say that we have made considerable progress in the past couple of weeks.
"We are by no means at the finish line, but we feel that we are moving ahead very quickly with considerable help from many relevant people and the good wishes of County's army of supporters. We have had very satisfactory meetings with the administrator and their legal team and we are extremely pleased with the specialist help they have given us.
"Our intention is to submit the final bid documentation to the League by the end of April in advance of the League's full meeting on 13th May."
Injury blow
Meanwhile, Matty Mainwaring has been ruled out for the rest of the season through injury just days after making his comeback from a broken leg.
The 20-year-old midfielder fell awkwardly in training following an innocuous challenge by Sam Barnes and has suffered a suspected broken wrist. The club are awaiting the results of a scan to determine the full extent of the injury.
Unlucky Mainwaring made his first appearance of the season when he came off the bench to play against Bolton in Monday's Manchester Senior Cup Tie after recovering from the broken leg he suffered in a pre-season game with Grimsby.
