New Rovers boss looking forward to getting back to work
League One strugglers Bristol Rovers have appointed Dave Penney as the club's new manager to replace Paul Trollope.
Rovers parted company with Trollope last month and received over 60 applications before interviewing 10 candidates for the position.
Penney has come out on top in the interview process and the former Doncaster and Darlington boss is looking forward to the challenge.
He has been linked with several jobs since leaving Oldham Athletic at the end of last season and is keen to make his mark at Rovers.
Exciting
"It is nice to get back in and get straight down to it, which is what's needed," Penney told the club's
official website.
"I made a conscious effort that when I came out of Oldham I was going to try and choose the right football club, and I have been in the fortunate position that I could wait a bit. This felt right when I had the interview.
"The club has great tradition and I don't think it should be in the position it is in. I came and watched against Plymouth and the first half was very encouraging and there looks like there is something to build on.
"It is an exciting time for myself and something for me to get my teeth into. When you can get this club going in the right direction the fans get right behind the team.
"There is half the season left and plenty of time to turn the season round. Get the players back at it and add a couple of additions in the next month to make us stronger.
"First and foremost we need to make sure we are in this division next season. Long term the aim is to build on what has been started."
