Championship newcomers will not be signing Engelhardt
Peterborough's Director of Football Barry Fry has revealed that German international Marco Engelhardt has left the club following an unsuccessful trial period.
The 30-year-old defender is looking for a new club after leaving German Second Division outfit Karlsruher.
However, Fry told
skysports.com that the experienced centre-half won't be joining the Championship newcomers any time soon.
"He was only in for three days because he came over on Thursday and trained with the lads before playing on Saturday and went back home on Sunday," he said.
"He was supposed to be going on trial with Birmingham, but that didn't happen after the manager situation over there, so he got in touch with Darren (Ferguson) about coming over for a few days.
"We won't be signing him, as it was more a case of letting him build up his fitness whilst we have a look at him."
Huge challenge
Having secured promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt, following their sensational 3-0 play-off final victory over Huddersfield in May, Fry expects this season to be a huge challenge.
"In terms of results we have done quite well, with good results at Barnet (2-2), Crawley (4-2), St. Neots (7-3), Notts County (3-2), Gillingham (2-1) and we are glad that pre-season is over and done with to be honest," he added.
"It was a miraculous achievement for us to get back into the Championship last season and I think that it will take another miracle for us to avoid relegation this year.
"There are 17/18 clubs in the Championship that have been in the Premier League before, so we are punching well above our weight, but we want to go in there and survive.
"Our players will have the benefit of having played at that level before, even if we did get relegated at the first attempt then, but hopefully we've learned from those mistakes.
"We are all looking forward to it and we've still got the same side, apart from Craig Mackail-Smith, that helped get us into this division last season and we are all excited about what lies ahead.
"We know that any club can beat another in the Championship on their day, so we are aware how difficult it will be, but we just can't wait for Saturday to come round now."
