Rochdale have signed former Scunthorpe midfielder David Syers on a deal running to the end of the season.
The 28-year-old left Glanford Park by mutual consent earlier this month.
Dale boss Keith Hill told rochdaleafc.co.uk: "David is a good player. He has pedigree, he scores goals, he is an effective midfield player.
"He knows what to do in both boxes and he has got the right experience.
"As well as coming in to stake a claim for a place in the starting line-up, I think it creates good competition. I think he'll educate one or two of the young boys as well."
Syers spent his career in non-league football before joining Bradford in 2010.
Two years later he moved to Doncaster and subsequently enjoyed a successful spell on loan from Rovers with Scunthorpe, which became a permanent switch in January 2014.
