Rochdale v FC United preview

FC United of Manchester play their first FA Cup first-round tie when they travel to Rochdale.

Non-league club play first game in FA Cup proper

FC United of Manchester play their first FA Cup first-round tie on Friday night when the non-league side travel to Rochdale. The club were founded as a result of the Glazer family's takeover at Manchester United and have enjoyed three successive promotions in recent years. They are also the first team to feature in our new 'Road to Wembley' feature and skysports.com's Graeme Bailey caught up with general manager Andy Walsh earlier in the week. FC United are just two games away from a potential third-round tie with the Red Devils, but will head to Spotland to face a Rochdale side determined to avoid an upset. Rochdale will be fresh for Friday's fixture after their midweek game in League One against Oldham Athletic was abandoned just a few minutes in due to an unplayable pitch. Though the rain has continued to fall in the town, covers have been put over the pitch and Dale are confident there will be no further problems come kick-off.

Team news

Dale boss Keith Hill has no new injury concerns and Craig Dawson, Jason Kennedy and Brian Barry-Murphy, who all picked up knocks at Leyton Orient last weekend, were fit to start against Oldham. Hill has also allowed two players to go out on loan ahead of the game, with Alan Goodall joining Blue Square Bet Premier side Newport County until January and Callum Byrne heading to Evo-Stik League side Mossley AFC for a month. Left-back Lee Neville will miss the biggest game in FC United's brief history after being ruled out for four to six weeks with a stress fracture of his foot. However, defenders Karl Munroe and Martin Parker, and strikers Ben Deegan and Glynn Hurst, have been declared fit for the game. Long-term absentees Steve Torpey and Ludovic Quistin will miss the game as FC United seek to be in the draw for round two.
