Knee injury sidelines midfielder with veteran striker shown door

Darlington midfielder Gareth Waite will miss the rest of the season, while Noel Whelan has left the club. Waite, yet to play under new manager Simon Davey after missing the last three matches with a knee injury, will undergo surgery to resolve the problem. Meanwhile, veteran striker Whelan has left the club after an injury-blighted spell. The former Leeds, Coventry and Middlesbrough striker was playing for expenses only with the Quakers. He joined the club in October, but has made just three appearances due to hamstring and sciatica problems.
