Magpies want Munto Finance investigated
Notts County's new owner Ray Trew is calling police in to investigate former owners Munto Finance.
The Swiss-based Middle Eastern consortium were in control of the League Two club between July and December last year.
They arrived in a blaze of glory, with promises of Premier League football and they looked to follow this up by splashing out in bringing the likes of Sven Goran Eriksson and Sol Campbell to the club.
Campbell left after just one game, and Munto Finance departed - but the debts they left have only just been fully uncovered.
Trew and his accountants have gone through the Meadow Lane finances and although they have managed to guide the club away from administration, County's new owners are far from happy.
"One day next week we will be calling them in," Trew told the
Nottingham Evening Post.
"I have to be careful because I don't want to prejudice the police investigation but we believe there are certainly activities which have gone on here that warrant the police being called in."
The Magpies were due in the High Court on Wednesday over a winding-up petition brought by HMRC but Trew has paid the tax-bill and is soon hoping the Football League's transfer embargo will be lifted.
"Once the winding-up petition has been lifted, we will then make inroads to get the Football League embargo lifted," said Trew.
"That is going to prove more difficult than it would appear. It's not just about removing the winding-up petition, there is the issue of the 60 per cent salary cap.
"We have got a few angles to deal with that, and hopefully we can. One is by putting investment into the club."
