Former Leicester defender James Pearson has joined Sky Bet League Two side Barnet on a non-contract basis.

Pearson, son of ex-Leicester manager Nigel, was sacked by the Premier League club last summer following an incident during the Foxes' post-season tour to Thailand.

Pearson and Leicester team-mates Tom Hopper and Adam Smith had their contracts terminated for their part in a sexually-explicit video during which racist language was used.

Barnet, who are 18th in League Two, announced on their official website: "Barnet Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of full-back James Pearson."

The 23-year-old Pearson said: "I'm very happy to have signed for Barnet. Now it's time to get going and to get some games under my belt.

"I spoke to the manager and he was looking to give me a chance and see what I'm all about.

"I'm delighted and very grateful that he's given me an opportunity to prove what I can do - to play at this level with Barnet, and to potentially progress further with this club in the future.

Pearson progressed through Leicester's academy and captained the development side before earning a one-year contract last summer.

That deal was cancelled following a club investigation, while striker Hopper and goalkeeper Smith, now at Scunthorpe and Northampton respectively, were also sacked.

Pearson made one first-team appearance for Leicester, in the Capital One Cup, and has also had loan spells at Carlisle and Wrexham.
