Promotion rivals meet for high noon derby at Gigg Lane
Bury's derby clash with promotion rivals Rochdale is the pick of Saturday's League Two fixtures, while Brentford will look to bolster their title credentials.
Brentford enjoy a four-point lead at the summit and therefore Andy Scott's side, who are unbeaten in six games, cannot be overtaken by second-placed Wycombe, who hold a game in hand.
And with that in mind,
Brentford's trip to
Rotherham, and
Wycombe's home game with
Chesterfield, play second-fiddle to the high noon showdown between Bury and Rochdale at Gigg Lane.
Alan Knill's fourth-placed
Bury welcome visiting
Rochdale, who occupy the final automatic promotion space, well aware that three points would see them leapfrog their local rivals.
And, despite playing down the significance, Rochdale boss Keith Hill will also know that defeat will severely dent title hopes, adding spice to the fixture.
Elsewhere,
Bradford got back on track with a Tuesday victory over Macclesfield, and boss Stuart McCall will expect to reinforce top-seven plans against
Aldershot at Valley Parade.
Exeter have strung together a run of seven games without defeat to climb into play-off contention and a trip to rock-bottom
Luton will be viewed as a three-point opportunity.
Gillingham currently sit in the final spot that could eventually earn a trip to Wembley at the end of the season and boss Mark Stimson will demand a response at
Accrington following a midweek stalemate with Luton.
However,
Shrewsbury, who take on
Notts County, are waiting to pounce if the Gills slip up, sitting as they do only one point behind seventh position.
Dagenham & Redbridge have also yet to give up on a place in the play-offs, but
Morecambe will hope to douse those aspirations.
Darlington rescued hope in their flagging season with a victory over Notts County, after administration punishment had been sandwiched between defeats to Rochdale and Exeter, and the Quakers will again seek success against
Macclesfield.
Grimsby could climb out of the relegation zone if
Lincoln City are defeated at Blundell Park, and rivals
Bournemouth lose or draw at home to
Port Vale.
Chester are also struggling at the wrong end of the table after a 13-game winless run, and fingers will be crossed that
Barnet, who sit three points above, can be reeled in at Underhill.
