Accrington have appealed against goalkeeper Jason Mooney's dismissal in Saturday's 4-1 home win against Crawley.
Substitute Mooney was shown a straight red card by referee Andy Haines for racing on to the pitch after team-mate Shay McCartan's late second-half tackle on Crawley's Jon Ashton had sparked a 23-man melee.
McCartan was sent off and Crawley midfielder Simon Walton was also handed a straight red card for his part in the fracas during the Sky Bet League 2 match.
"I think between the referee and the fourth official they have got their wires crossed," Accrington manager John Coleman told the club's official website.
"They both told me that Jason had grabbed someone by the throat, which he didn't, so we are appealing that and we have to hope that justice is done and common sense prevails, but you can never second guess these things.
"We hope it can be resolved before (Tuesday night's) game (against Carlisle). If Jason is banned for three matches we have a couple of irons in the fire and will probably have to bring someone in."
