Accrington striker Shay McCartan has signed a new contract with the club.

McCartan joined Stanley in 2013 after being released by Burnley and the 22-year-old has put pen to paper to extend his stay at the Crown Ground until the summer of 2018.

"It's a big year for Shay. Josh Windass' form last year kept Shay from playing the position he wanted to play in and now it's a big chance for him," Accrington boss John Coleman told the club's official website.

"I am confident he will grab the opportunity with both hands. He is capable of scoring a lot of goals this season.

"Shay is an exciting player and he can get better - he needs to be consistent and hopefully we will see that this season."
