Silkmen hunt for striker

Alexander doubts funds are available to follow up Butcher deal

Macclesfield Town manager Keith Alexander insists he is still keen to bring another striker in on loan. The League Two strugglers signed midfielder Richard Butcher on loan from Lincoln City earlier this week to ease their injury-ravaged side. Alexander, though, has admitted he would still like to recruit a striker, but doubts the club's finances will allow him to do so any time soon. "Well, I had to bring in an extra midfield player because we have lost the likes of Hamza Bencherif, Ross Draper and Paul Bolland, so bringing Richard Butcher in was an essential signing for us," he told skysports.com. "I'm still looking to bring in another striker, but financially it is not possible at the moment because I haven't got any money. "There isn't much we can do about that at the moment, so we will just have to continue to do the job with what we have got until things change on that front." Butcher made an instant impact with the Silkmen on Tuesday night, scoring the opener in their 2-1 defeat to promotion-chasing Bury, and Alexander knows that the former Notts County man has a point to prove after being frozen out at Sincil Bank. Alexander added: "He played for me at Lincoln, so I know what he can bring to the side and it is up to him to go out and prove that he still has what it takes whilst he is here. "A new manager came in at Lincoln and wanted to bring in his own players, so it is up to Richard to show what he can do with us and get his career back on track really."
