Rovers move for striker
Doncaster Rovers have failed with a second bid for an unnamed striker.
Doncaster Rovers have failed with a second bid for an unnamed striker, with Boston United's in-demand Andy Kirk being linked with the League One side.Kirk is expected to leave Boston once the club receive a suitable offer, with Leicester City among the Northern Ireland international's suitors.
But Rovers have also been mooted as admirers of the hot shot and have had a second offer for a mystery forward rejected over the weekend.
Rovers chairman John Ryan had confirmed the club had submitted a second bid for the player but must now decide whether a third offer will prove worthwhile.
The Belle Vue outfit are anxious to bolster their attacking options with Ryan feeling the bid shows the strength of the club's ambition.
"I am not looking to make up the numbers but to be once again successful and make the play-offs," said Ryan.
"This shows that we are ambitious."
In recent weeks, Rovers have been unable to lure Clive Platt and Scott Taylor to Belle Vue, while they have also been linked with Everton's Nick Chadwick.
Another name in the frame is Bristol City attacker Paul Heffernan but the strongest link appears to be with Boston's Kirk.
