Clough looks to lure a Pilgrim
Burton Albion boss Nigel Clough is hoping to land Boston striker Anthony Elding.
Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough is ready to step up the chase to land Boston United striker Anthony Elding.
The Pirelli Stadium chief has money at his disposal, and will use star striker Daryl Clare to lure the 24-year-old former Stevenage Borough man to Staffordshire.
The Pilgrims have struggled for goals so far this season, and had loanee striker Drewe Broughton sent off in their last-gasp 1-0 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend.
Clare and Elding meanwhile, formed a prolific partnership as Boston won the Conference title in 2002. And after rejecting a move to League Two Chester City last week, Elding is expected to look for a club closer to home.
Boston manager Steve Evans has made it clear Elding does not fit into his plans at York Street, but says he has no intention of letting the one-goal man out on a short-term deal.
"If Nigel wants to sign Anthony then he should speak to his chairman, Ben Robinson, and ask him to get his chequebook out, because he won't be going there on loan," Evans commented.
