Scottish Premiership weekly predictor with Walker & Crocker
Friday 12 August 2016 15:06, UK
After an opening weekend where Rangers were held at Ibrox by Hamilton, Celtic recorded a narrow win over Hearts and Aberdeen failed to score, Ian Crocker and Andy Walker give their thoughts on this weekend's action.
Dundee v Rangers
Saturday 12.15pm kick-off
The most recent encounter between the sides took place in last year's Scottish Cup quarter-finals with Rangers running out comfortable 4-0 winners. Harry Forrester scored after 13 seconds that day and has scored twice and notched two assists in Rangers last four league games.
Dundee were the only side to score more than twice in the opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership in their 3-1 win over Ross County.
This will be the first time Rangers have met Dundee in the top flight of Scottish football since March 2005, when they won 2-0 at Dens Park thanks to goals from Marvin Andrews and Fernando Ricksen.
Andy Walker's prediction:
Dundee 2-2 Rangers
Key player: Rory Loy
The striker had an excellent goalscoring start to the season last week in the absence of Kane Hemmings, and looks like he will have to fill the void left by Greg Stewart as well.
Ian Crocker's prediction:
Dundee 1-2 Rangers
Key player: Harry Forrester
Showed what he can do in half an hour as a sub against Hamilton. His pass for Waghorn's goal was a thing of beauty!
Aberdeen v Hearts
Saturday 3pm kick-off
The best of the rest in last season's title race. Hearts have won their last two league fixtures against Aberdeen, but haven't been able to record three in a row since December 2010.
Aberdeen have kept five clean sheets at Pittodrie in the last eight games against the Edinburgh side, but have only managed two victories in that time, drawing four and losing two.
Andy Walker's prediction:
Aberdeen 2-1 Hearts
Key player: Ryan Jack
The Aberdeen captain has the ability to dictate the tempo of the game to suit his side.
Ian Crocker's prediction:
Aberdeen 2-2 Hearts
Key player: Tony Watt
Missed a sitter against Celtic but showed he will be a major goal threat this season. Good to see him back in Scotland.
Hamilton Accies v Kilmarnock
Saturday 3pm kick-off
Kilmarnock have kept clean sheets in the last four league visits to Hamilton, and are unbeaten in their last six at the Superseal Stadium. Accies have won just once in 15 Premiership league matches, losing nine of those.
Andy Walker's prediction:
Hamilton Accies 2-0 Kilmarnock
Key player: Greg Docherty
He showed last week at Ibrox how well he can perform on the big occasion with a great performance against Rangers.
Ian Crocker's prediction:
Hamilton Accies 1-0 Kilmarnock
Key player: Ali Crawford
He's been around a while but still only 25 and destined for a big move one day. He and Greg Docherty impressed at Ibrox but Crawford's goal was superb.
Inverness CT v Ross County
Saturday 3pm kick-off
The first Highland derby of the Scottish Premiership season will see Inverness CT attempting to continue their eight match unbeaten league run against Ross County.
Both teams have scored in seven of the last 10 meetings in all competitions with 28 goals in those matches, an average of just under three per match.
Andy Walker's prediction:
Inverness CT 2-3 Ross County
Key player: Andrew Davies
The former Ross County captain gave them the experience and leadership last season that resulted in huge success.
Ian Crocker's prediction:
Inverness CT 2-1 Ross County
Key player: Greg Tansey
He'll be looking to run the show in the Highland derby, and he's perfectly capable of doing just that.
Motherwell v St Johnstone
Saturday 3pm kick-off
Motherwell have only won once in seven Premiership games against Tommy Wright's St Johnstone. Saints goalkeeper Alan Mannus made nine saves on the opening weekend, more than any other in the Scottish top-flight.
Andy Walker's prediction:
Motherwell 1-2 St Johnstone
Key player: Paul Paton
Paton is the type of signing that can ensure St Johnstone finish comfortably in the top six.
Ian Crocker's prediction:
Motherwell 2-1 St Johnstone
Key player: Lionel Ainsworth
He'll still be buzzing after that fantastic goal at Kilmarnock. When he's flying he is flying!
