Managers from the amateur team were astonished when they received an email saying it had been discovered on the Norwegian island of Vanna.

It is thought to have floated down the nearby River Dee in Aberdeen, into the North Sea and onto the island.

The beachcomber who found the ball tracked down the owners from the club's name scrawled in pen on the side of it.

Banks O' Dee secretary Tom Ewan said: "It's the Norse saga of the long distance football."
