Kilmarnock boss Kenny Shiels has rejected an approach from an English club in the hope of extending his stay with the Scottish side.

I couldn't look my son in the face if I left for money, says Killie boss

Kilmarnock boss Kenny Shiels has rejected an approach from an English club in the hope of extending his stay with the Scottish side. Shiels, who was recently linked with the Bournemouth job, appears to prefer waiting to see if Kilmarnock chairman Michael Johnston will offer him a long-term deal at the club. The 56-year-old manager is out of contract in the summer and talks with Johnston have failed to come to fruition thus far. Shiels has guided Kilmarnock to seventh place in the Scottish Premier League as well as their first silverware in 15 years by winning the Scottish League Cup in March. When asked about the contract situation, he said: "I don't think I'm the right person to ask. I'm waiting on the chairman getting back to me so hopefully that will be concluded shortly. "We've got a long-term plan in place and I want something that's commensurate with that.

Unfair

"I've turned down a job this week. I was offered to go for an interview for a job on Wednesday and I didn't take it because I felt it was unfair. It was an English club, that's all I will say." Shiels' own son Dean made a significant financial sacrifice in January by signing until the end of the season when Doncaster refused to extend his loan deal. And that has played its part in Shiels hoping to be given the opportunity to commit his future to the club. "I couldn't look my son in the face when he has stayed for less money," he added. "So I've decided I want to be here and hopefully that's reciprocated."
