Ross County manager Jim McIntyre could not hide his delight as his new-look side recorded their first league win in over three months to reignite hopes of top flight survival.

Debutant Raffaele de Vita was among the scorers as County edged fellow relegation candidates Motherwell 3-2 to close the gap at the bottom on their opponents - and fellow strugglers St Mirren - to three points.

McIntyre admitted a more attacking approach had borne fruit at Victoria Park but insisted there was still plenty of work to do to prolong their three-year Premiership adventure.

He said: "We felt we had to change the system and have a real go. We started with two strikers and they caused Motherwell all kinds of problems.

"It is a very important result, and it's great to draw Motherwell closer to us, but we've got to carry that on. We know exactly what we have to do and how tough it is going to be, but performances like that will go a long way."

Motherwell remain in the play-off spot, having picked up just one point from their last seven matches and manager Ian Baraclough said: "We've scored two good goals away from home and you expect to get something from that but we have to come from behind every week at the moment and we're not giving ourselves a great chance to win games.

"We're getting picked off and that can't be right. Set-pieces are crucial; they can win and lose you games and we need to tighten up in that area, that's for sure. We have 13 massive games coming up now and we are in control of our destiny."
