Celtic may be trailing Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership, but manager Ronny Deila is convinced his side are in better shape than last season

Celtic boss Ronny Deila says Charlie Mulgrew is a major doubt for Scotland's European Championship qualifiers against Poland and Gibraltar next month.

The Hoops utility player has missed the last three games with a thigh injury and Deila is not expecting him to be available until after Gordon Strachan's side play their last Group D game against Gibraltar in Faro on October 11, three days after Poland's visit to Hampden Park.

Mulgrew was sidelined for much of the second half of last season after picking up a knee injury in December but has been a regular in Strachan's qualifying sides.

However, ahead of Celtic's Premiership clash with Hearts on Saturday, Deila said his player was a doubt for the next round of national team fixtures.

Deila said: "Charlie, I think, will be ready to play after the national team [games].

"I think that is going to be tough [to make it]. I am not 100 per cent in that, I am not a physio - even though I think I am sometimes!
