Celtic boss Ronny Deila believes Charlie Mulgrew is likely to drop out of the Scotland squad due to injury.

The Hoops midfielder has been out with a thigh problem since mid-September and Deila expects him to fail the national team's fitness test ahead of Thursday's crucial European Qualifier against Poland.

Deila said: "He will struggle. He will meet up and they will take a scan and they will know what to do with it.

"But he has still not trained for us."

The Norwegian added it would be "strange" if Mulgrew was to play having not trained for his club since picking up the knock against Aberdeen.

"But I have good communication with Gordon [Strachan] and I completely trust what they are doing," he added.

Meanwhile, Kevin McDonald has dropped out of the squad after he picked up a back injury.

The midfielder scored and set up two more goals in Wolves' 3-0 win over Huddersfield on Saturday.

His club tweeted: "Kevin McDonald has withdrawn from the Scotland squad and will remain at Compton Park for treatment on a lower back injury."

Scotland boss Strachan has injury concerns over Ikechi Anya, James Morrison and Darren Fletcher for the game at Hampden.

Anya went off with a muscle problem late in Watford's draw with Bournemouth on Saturday.

West Brom midfielder Morrison, who is suspended against the Poles but could face Gibraltar on Sunday, went off with an ankle problem against Crystal Palace.

Baggies boss Tony Pulis said Fletcher had finished the game with a knock.

The Scots lie fourth in Group D, six points behind second-place Poland.
