Callum McGregor is hoping to show Alex McLeish he is good enough for a regular place in the Scotland squad with a solid performance against Rangers.

Celtic travel to face their Glasgow rivals on Sunday, live on Sky Sports Football, with just six points separating the two sides at the top of the Ladbrokes Premiership.

"You are always looking to impress every time you are on the pitch and Sunday is certainly no different.

"You have the added stuff about Scotland, everything is building up to be a positive afternoon and if you come out of that with a good performance then looking towards Scotland would be great as well.

"If you ask any player, to play for their country is a massive honour, I am no different to that.

Brendan Rodgers has not tasted defeat to Rangers in eight games since he took over from Ronny Deila in 2016 and McGregor is keen to extend that unbeaten record on Sunday.

"I got a goal there the time before last (in a 5-1 win) and it was a great day for the club as well," he said.

"You can't describe the feeling of scoring in that game. It's really special and I would be delighted to get one on Sunday.

"All the Celtic v Rangers games are special. It doesn't really matter where you sit in the league. They're always massive games, with all the hype surrounds them. It's a big fixture so to get a goal in any of those games is excellent.

"They are confident coming off the back of a good run of form, and they might see it as the best chance they've had for a while.

"But we just have to focus on our stuff and if we go there and prepare well and we'll be confident of taking something from it."
