Freddie Ljungberg's agent has rubbished claims in the Swedish press that the player is set to retire.

No negotiations yet with Celtic

Freddie Ljungberg's agent has rubbished claims in the Swedish press that the player is set to retire. The 34-year-old has failed to set the world alight since arriving at Celtic at the turn of the year and has only made a handful of appearance for the SPL winners. The midfielder's move to Scotland followed a brief foray into the MLS with the Seattle Sounders followed by Chicago Fire. With his contract at Celtic Park set to run out at the end of June and with no negotiations with the club ongoing, the Swede will spend the summer deciding on the next step in his career. When asked about the possibility of the former Arsenal player hanging up his boots, Ljungberg's agent Phil Smith gave a defiant retort. Speaking to Fotbollskanalen Smith said: "That is a ridiculous question. One of the most stupid I've heard. Why would he give up football? "That proves Sweden is behind the rest of the world. There aren't any thoughts like that at all. "The season is just over and there are a lot of things going on at the moment."
