Ayr United youngster opts to remain with club
Mark Shankland has turned his back on potential moves to Liverpool, Celtic and Rangers by signing a two-year professional deal with Ayr United.
The 15-year-old academy striker, who is the youngest player to feature for the club's first-team, had been attracting interest from the illustrious Anfield club and Glasgow giants.
However, Shankland has agreed to stay at Somerset Park and chairman Lachlan Cameron believes the youngster will benefit from regular first-team football at the club.
"Mark has a bright future ahead of him and we believe that to leave to play in England or the Old Firm at this stage of his career would be the wrong move for him or any of our youngsters," said Cameron.
"It shows to all at the academy and club that what we are doing is working, when a player of Mark's ability and potential chooses Ayr to continue his development, over the relentless pursuit of the biggest clubs in Scotland."
