Hoops set sights on signing Israeli striker
Celtic have confirmed an interest in Beram Kayal's international team-mate Omer Damari.
The Hoops are on the look-out for a new striker and have made an approach to Damari's club, Maccabi Petah Tikva, regarding the 22-year-old striker.
Damari hit 12 goals in 30 games for Maccabi last season while scoring a double on his international debut against Iceland last November.
And Celtic have received further encouragement from midfielder Kayal, who revealed he has spoken with Damari about a potential move to Parkhead.
"Omer and I talked in January and also less than two months ago," he told the
Daily Record.
Recommendation
"He asked me about the offer and I gave him a strong recommendation.
"Celtic then asked me what I know about him. I told them that Omer is one of the top strikers in Israel and has everything needed to succeed.
"With his speed and understanding of the game, he can reach high levels."
However, Celtic could face competition from Israeli side Maccabi Haifa, who have ear-marked Damari as a possible replacement for Rangers target Tomer Hemed.
Neil Lennon is yet to table a bid for Damari but he is aware of their interest and is now keen to link up with Kayal.
Damari is represented by Israeli agent Dudu Dahan, who was the man behind Kayal's £1.5million move from Maccabi Haifa to Celtic last summer, and the 23-year-old went on to have an impressive first year with the Hoops.
