Celtic have suffered a double injury blow ahead of next week’s Europa league encounter with Inter Milan.

Defender Mikael Lustig and forward Kris Commons are likely to miss the first leg at Celtic Park on Thursday 19 February.

Commons pulled up with a hamstring tear during Celtic’s Scottish Cup tie at Dens Park on Saturday and could be out of action for two weeks, although manager Ronny Deila is hoping the 31-year-old will play some part against the Serie A side.

Lustig also suffered an injury against Dundee, taking a knock to his ankle in the second half of the 2-0 victory, and he looks set for up to a month on the sidelines, which would rule him out of the return at the San Siro.

“He has pulled a muscle, they call it a grade one, so it’s not a big one, maybe two weeks hopefully, one or two weeks. So we’ll see,” the Hoops boss said about Commons.

“We always want our players to be fit, and Kris as well, but it could be much worse. I’m positive he’ll quickly be back again.

“It’s more serious with Mikael, but three or four weeks I think he’ll be back."

Deila will likely look to new boy Stuart Armstrong as cover for Commons while Adam Matthews is the obvious replacement for Lustig, having stood in numerous times for the injury-prone Sweden international.
