Joey Barton given one-game ban for breaching betting rules

Former Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has been handed a one-game ban for breaching Scottish football's rules on betting.
Barton was charged with placing 44 bets on football matches, in contravention of Scottish Football Association Disciplinary Rule 31, and the 34-year-old received the suspension after admitting his guilt.
The bets were placed between July 1 and September 15 this year and the betting activity reportedly included Celtic's 7-0 hiding by Barcelona two days before that period came to an end.
Barton is currently without a club after his contract with Rangers was terminated earlier this month - he had been suspended by the club in October after a training ground bust-up.
The ban will definitely be served if Barton's next club is also in Scotland, while a move to another country would mean the domestic football association of his new club deciding whether it should be recognised or not.
