Dutchman expected to move into coaching

Former Dutch international Ronald De Boer has announced his retirement from the game. De Boer has cancelled his contract with Qatari outfit Al-Shamal in order to hang up his boots. The 37-year-old, twin brother of former Dutch defender Frank, has only recently recovered from surgery on a neck injury and he does not want to risk playing in Al-Shamal's last two games of the season. "I am now completely fit again, but the league here has two more matches to go and I do not want to risk getting injured again," said De Boer. "By terminating my contract, the club can sign an extra foreign player. Now a Brazilian is playing in my place." De Boer enjoyed an illustrious career with spells at Ajax, Barcelona and Rangers before joining Al Rayyan in Qatar in 2004 and then moving on to Al-Shamal the following year. The Dutchman is now expected to move into coaching
