Gers ready to add Croatian ace

Rangers are poised to land the signature of Nikica Jelavic on Friday when the striker undergoes a medical at the club. Jelavic is close to becoming manager Walter Smith's third signing of the summer and will arrive at Murray Park to undergo the medical and conclude personal terms. The move comes after the Gers and Rapid Vienna finally reached an agreement for the deal after the Croatian striker refused to play in Thursday's Europa League play-off against Aston Villa in an attempt to force through the transfer. Jelavic's bid appears to have been successful with the Austrian club paving the way for the transfer, which will reportedly cost Rangers around £4million. Chief executive Martin Bain told the club's official website: "We have agreed a fee with Rapid for Nikica Jelavic and we have also agreed personal terms in principle. "He will arrive tomorrow when we will hope to complete these and when he will also undergo a medical." The 24-year-old should become the SPL champions' third recruit of the summer, having already brought in Slovakian international Vladimir Weiss on a one-year loan deal on Thursday. The Manchester City winger arrived in Glasgow to complete the move despite being linked to Old Firm rivals Celtic, as well as Stuttgart and Sampdoria. Jelavic will add to Smith's attacking options after he also captured James Beattie from Stoke for an undisclosed fee.
