Rangers caretaker manager Kenny McDowall says his team have shrugged off last week’s loss to Celtic and are fully focused on Sunday’s William Hill Scottish Cup fifth-round tie against Raith Rovers at Ibrox.

McDowall’s men were comfortably defeated 2-0 at Hampden Park last weekend in an eagerly-awaited showdown with their old rivals.

And the troubled Championship side then found themselves in the news once again when McDowall, who is working out his 12-month notice period, said he had been instructed to always play all five of the Newcastle players the club have signed on loan, providing they are fit.

His claim was later refuted by chief executive Derek Llambias and McDowall says everyone is now focused on Sunday’s fixture.

"Last week was what it was, and we move on,” he said. “The boys have come back and put the working gear on.

"They have had a good week and are looking forward to it. It's a cup tie again and we are looking forward to getting through to the next round, hopefully.

"But I am under no illusion. It is going to be a difficult match but one we are looking forward to.

"It is a great achievement to go into any tournament and win it.

"That is what you play football for and I am sure the guys will want to win on Sunday."

Winger Fraser Aird also suggested the players would have little trouble putting the Celtic defeat to the back of their minds.

"That game is gone now, it's fish and chip paper,” he said.

"You can't change the result so all we can do is look forward to the game on Sunday and get ourselves into a quarter-final of another cup.

"We have a massive chance, so that's the game we need to focus on."
