Dons boss says re-signing Duff is an option

Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee insists he could bring recently dumped Stuart Duff back to his side - if he is unable to find anyone better. McGhee chose not to offer a new deal to the versatile midfielder on Thursday as part of his bid to rebuild the Pittodrie team. But the Dons manager concedes he could re-sign Duff later in the year if his restructuring efforts do not go to plan. "Stuart is a good professional and a good lad so it wasn't a pleasant thing to do as he proved over the course of last season he can do a decent job," McGhee told the Daily Record. "But my priority has to be spending the budget that is available on players who are likely to be guaranteed a starting place in the team. "I only have limited funds so hard decisions have to be made to ensure the money is used in the best manner possible. "If he is available later in the summer and we are still looking for players there is a chance we might speak again but as things stand I am considering other options."

Long haul

McGhee is adamant he is at the Scottish club for the long haul and that he is too busy planning for next season to leave. "I don't know how many times I have to say I'm fully committed to making a success of my spell as Aberdeen manager," he added. "I want to finally clear it all up by saying I came here to do a job and I will see it through. I expected it might be a bit of a rocky road to begin with although maybe not as rocky as it was last season. "But I stated right at the start of my time at Aberdeen it would probably take me between 18 months to two years to get to where I want us to be."
