Aberdeen boss Craig Brown fears Paul Hartley may be forced to retire from playing at the end of the season.
Hartley has been out of action for the last two months with a knee injury and he will miss the remainder of the campaign.
The 34-year-old was believed to be considering hanging up his boots and Brown has revealed he will sit down and talk with the former Hearts and Celtic man about his future in the summer.
"This is something I plan to have a long chat with Paul about," Brown told the
Daily Record.
"Before he suffered the latest injury, he had said his body was feeling tired. At that point we decided to allow him a little more time to rest.
"Davie Weir does the same thing at Rangers, he hardly trains to make sure he is fit for games.
"We were doing something similar with Paul out of respect for him and the influence he has on the team when he is available. Now it's a case of speaking to him to find out what he plans to do."
