Hearts legend John Robertson has thanked football fans all across Scotland for their messages support after he was hospitalised by a fall.

The 52-year-old - the Edinburgh club's record goalscorer with 271 goals - was taken to the Royal Infirmary on Thursday with suspected broken ribs after taking a tumble down a flight of stairs at Tynecastle.

A statement issued by Hearts read: "On behalf of John Robertson, the club would like to thank the hundreds of people who have sent messages wishing John a speedy recovery.

"They have not only come from Hearts fans but from the supporters of many other clubs. The game shows its true colours in such situations and it is warming to us all.
