Hearts manager Robbie Neilson is confident winger Sam Nicholson will be back in action following the winter break.

Nicholson, who last played in the 3-1 victory over Motherwell at Fir Park in September, is currently recovering from a knee operation.

Neilson is happy with the 21-year-old's progress though and has ruled out a move for a replacement in January.

Nicholson's recovery is going to plan and Neilson is confident he will be fit for the trip to Celtic Park on January 28.

"He's getting his brace extended a bit this week, which gives him more range of movement and gets his knee to 90 degrees," Neilson said in a local newspaper..

"That will help him because he's been pretty static for the last few weeks. We're pleased how he's improving.

"He's on schedule but we're not going to rush him. The plan is to get him back after the winter break.

"There's no point in bringing him back for one or two games before January. We'll give him more time, an extra two or three weeks, to make sure he's ready to go when he comes back."
