Veteran shot-stopper unhappy with managerial departure
Kilmarnock goalkeeper Alan Combe has expressed his disappointment at the 'nightmare' departure of Jim Jefferies.
Jefferies and assistant Billy Brown were sacked by Killie on Monday having failed to win on their last three outings, with the club currently 11th in the Scottish Premier League table.
Combe, 35, has been at Rugby Park since 2004 and thinks there is no-one better to turn around the club's form than the departing duo.
"It's a bit of a nightmare so far as I'm concerned," he said in the
Daily Record.
"Jim and Billy were the best manager and No.2 I'd ever worked under and I'm very disappointed to see them go from the club.
"I can't say I'm happy because I felt they were the right men for the job at Killie. I'm very disappointed it has come to this.
"We had our ups and downs together but they understood me as a person and as a player.
Understanding
"They knew when I got annoyed and understood when I was acting like an idiot as well.
"Jim and Billy had eight good years at Killie and were terrific servants to the club.
"I've got no doubt they'll go on somewhere else and do a really good job."
Kilmarnock's next game is a home SPL clash against Motherwell on Saturday, and Combe is hoping the players can try and turn the managerial situation into a motivator for upcoming matches.
"If there is a positive side to something like this it's the fact that such a dramatic turn of events has to act as a kick up the backside for the first-team dressing room," he added.
"The players now have to work even harder on the park to impress the new manager, whoever he is.
"The players need to take a long, hard look at themselves and realise we're all in this together. We have to fight to keep the club in the Premier League."
