Celtic have had a bid rejected by Hibernian for midfielder John McGinn, Sky Sources understand.

McGinn, who won the Scottish Cup with the Edinburgh side in 2016, has just one year left on his current deal at Easter Road.

The 23-year-old has been the subject of interest for a number of clubs including some from the Premier League but admitted at the end of last season "he would only leave if he could continue to improve".

McGinn joined Hibs in 2015 from St Mirren and has since made 100 appearances for the club scoring 12 goals in total.

Hibernian chief executive Leeane Dempster says she would be surprised if there was not interest in midfielder John McGinn.

The club's chief executive said in June the midfielder was likely to attract interest from other clubs and that a large transfer fee would be tough to turn down.
