Hibs consider Hackett move

Hibernian are reportedly considering a move for Oxford winger Chris Hackett.

Hibernian are reportedly considering a move for Oxford winger Chris Hackett.

The 22-year-old is out of contract at The Kassam Stadium in the summer, and has already rejected a new deal with the League Two side.

U's boss Brian Talbot, who labelled Hackett "the best winger in the division" earlier in the season, is eager to keep the player, but accepts that there is little he can do to change his mind.

"Hackett is out of contract at the end of the season," he explained. "Hibs have shown an interest in him, but we would like to keep him here.

"However, if he wants to go we can't do much about it. We have talked to him about a new deal but he doesn't seem very keen."

Hackett has admitted that the idea of playing for Hibs is appealing, and if the Scottish club make a decent offer the transfer could go ahead before the end of the month.

"I would certainly be interested in a move to Scotland, it would just be dependent on the teams being able to sort out a fee," he revealed.

Hibs manager Tony Mowbray is looking to add to his squad to help them achieve European qualification, and Hackett is believed to be the type of young and ambitious player he is targeting.
