Hibs boss raids old club

Hibernian have signed Monaco defender Torben Joneleit on a year-long loan deal.

Hibernian have signed Monaco defender Torben Joneleit on a year-long loan deal.

The Germany Under 21 international has just signed a three-year contract at Monaco, but will spend next season at Hibs.

Easter Road boss John Collins has used his contacts at his old club to add the promising Joneleit to his plans for the new campaign.

"Torben is an exceptionally talented defender who has so far had limited first-team opportunities at Monaco," Collins told the club's official website.

"He is very highly rated by his club, who have only recently signed him on a three-year contract, and we are delighted that they have agreed to allow him to add to his experience by playing for Hibernian for the next year.

"He is a strong defender, who is comfortable with both feet, and I am convinced he will prove to be an asset to the football club this season."

Meanwhile, Monaco midfielder Jaroslav Plasil's future at Stade Louis II is unlikely to be resolved this week, with Osasuna showing an interest in the Czech.

Plasil's agent Pavel Paska told Sport: "Monaco, as well as me, have received an offer from Osasuna.

"We are considering it, but we will wait until the player meets with the new Monaco coach and discusses the options for possible future co-operation.

"Everything is still open, for sure it will not be resolved this week. As for the other options, there are some hints, but the only specific offer there has been was from Osasuna."
