Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager John Hughes hopes to keep his in-form side intact through the transfer window.

Caley posted a fourth consecutive win as goals from out-of-contract duo Billy McKay and Marley Watkins saw off the powder-puff challenge of St Johnstone in the Highland capital.

With several other players - including Ryan Christie, Josh Meekings and Graeme Shinnie - attracting interest, Hughes is hoping any approaches will be rebuffed.

He said: "We're in a window, where if a bid comes in we'd have to sit down and look at it. But we're just hoping the window closes and we're all still together, and we'll see where it takes us.

"It's one game at a time, we'll keep our feet on the ground and just keep playing good football. I think the boys are enjoying it.

Billy McKay's 10th goal of the season helped Inverness climb to within one point of second-placed Celtic as they eased past St Johnstone

"We've been playing like that most of the season. We can't get it every week but the most important thing is we've prepared the game very well, we've trained very well. Then it's putting that into action, and that's why I'm up above to see us playing with our heads. I think that was evident.

"I'm delighted to keep a clean sheet and score a couple of goals. On another night we might have scored another one or two."

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright was left to rue a mounting injury list as well as the lost points; Michael O'Halloran (calf) and Frazer Wright (thigh) were both replaced, while Dave Mackay was also injured, making them doubtful for Friday's match with Aberdeen.

"Any defeat is frustrating but the performance was here too," he said. "But we can't dwell on it and need to bounce back.

"You can't create chances if you don't have the ball. We knew they were going to have most of the possession but we didn't expect them to have that much. We contributed to the two goals - the first one was a missed clearance and
the second down to disorganisation and a lack of communication."
