Motherwell accept Wednesday bid for defender

Motherwell manager Stuart McCall has confirmed that Mark Reynolds is to join Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls failed with a bid for the defender earlier this month but returned with an improved offer which has now been accepted by Well. Shaun Hutchinson stepped in at centre-back for Saturday's goalless draw against Inverness and performed admirably, but McCall accepts the departure of Reynolds will be a major blow. He is now looking to bring in reinforcements to help the team push on over the second half of the season. "Mark's on his way down to Sheffield Wednesday to sign for them," McCall said. "We wish him all the best. He's been a great servant for Motherwell. "The fee is what the club said they would sell him for before I came here. I won't be seeing anything of it but I knew that. It's not a problem - I'll get his wages. "If you're asking me can I replace Mark for what he was, at this stage of the season? Probably not. But I'll be doing my best. "It's good business for the kid and good business for Motherwell. We are getting money that we wouldn't get at the end of the season and it's better happening two weeks before the transfer window shuts than two days."

Hopeful

While refusing to promise new signings before the visit of Hibernian next Saturday, McCall will be working to bring in a striker, left winger and defender. He said: "I got told yesterday the Mark Reynolds deal was dead in the water and one phone call later and it's happened. "There are a couple of things I feel close to but then I look at the television and they have moved to the Championship. "But I'm very hopeful we'll have a couple of fresh faces in before next week."
