Motherwell manager accepts Celtic deserved final triumph
Stuart McCall was left to bemoan what might have been following Motherwell's Hampden Park heartache, but acknowledged that Celtic fully deserved their victory.
Neil Lennon's Bhoys ran out 3-0 winners in the Scottish Cup final on Saturday thanks to long-range strikes from Ki Sung-yong and Charlie Mulgrew, as well as an own goal from Stephen Craigan.
Craigan's moment of misfortune came in the 76th minute when the game was still delicately poised at 1-0, with Motherwell having come close to equalising on a couple of occasions.
Gavin Gunning rattled the crossbar just moments after Ki had opened the scoring, and McCall was proud of his troops after the final whistle.
But he also congratulated Celtic on their success, telling
Sky Sports: "We're deeply disappointed.
"If you take the first minute out of the way when they hit the bar, up until half-time they've had one long-range shot which flew in and we've had one long-range shot which hit the underside of the bar.
"We couldn't have asked for any more of the players, but sometimes it is not your day.
"We've gone through 75 minutes only one down and a couple of little things went against us, but you can't take anything away from Celtic - they were the better side."
